HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A lucky Fort Lauderdale woman has won a record slot machine jackpot worth more than $3.8 million at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood.
An Oregon woman thought she won $8 million while playing a slot machine at a Washington casino — only to walk away with a measly $80 after officials told her the machine malfunctioned.
Ms. Laurie, who didn’t want to reveal her last name to the public, hit a jackpot for $3,854,682 on the IGT Megabucks® slots game shortly after midnight Thursday morning.
The jackpot marks the highest payout in history for all six Seminole Gaming properties and the largest slot jackpot ever awarded in Florida on an IGT game.
The lucky player was on a $1 machine and had wagered a $5 bet to win the jackpot.

“I am in absolute shock,” she said. “You like to dream big but that’s really big. That’s not even in the ballpark of what you think you can win. That’s a lottery! It still feels like a dream,” she said in a statement released by the casino.
The woman just celebrated her 60th birthday last week and was spending the evening at the Guitar Hotel having dinner with friends at Council Oak Steaks & Seafood.
When asked about what she plans to do with her winnings, she said, “We’re talking about hurricane windows! We talked about resurfacing the pool or maybe getting a nicer condo after retirement.”

The statement, “Malfunctions void all pays and plays,” is on every slot machine. In return, Bookman was only offered a steak dinner by the casino.
Bookman hired an attorney who said that the casino should at least give her the $6,500, which is the machine’s highest maximum payout. The casino said Bookman actually only won $2.25.

The casino and New York State Gaming Commission should be investigated by federal agents. If the casino doesn’t have to pay winners when slot machines malfunction, the casino should be forced to pay back the customers who put their hard-earned money into the machine. The reaction by the casino and New York State Gaming Commission could convince some people that the games in the casino are rigged and customers aren’t given legit chances to win.
After Bookman won the money, the casino allegedly decided to pull the machine and fix the problem. But Bookman believes that she deserves more for being a winner. She plans to sue the casino.
